I'm not really into strategy games, and if I was I'd get Guild Wars cos you have to pay monthly fees with WOW :P

ive played just about all 3d mmorpgs and some 2d mmoprgs and id say FF11, WoW, and Guildwars are all the same cause their really good games but get boring around lvl 20 except with guildwars, i just got bored with it and the system seems like crap to me. maybe if they make the lvl cap at least 45 and make it more PvE and less PvP then id get back into it cause i dont like PvP

I don't play WoW or Guild Wars. I don't want to risk getting addicted to them.

lol Nexus, your addicted to Starcraft? nexus = protoss
MMORPG's take too much of people's time to get good at them. You have to basically devote your life just so that your the best at them.

i think theres a big misunderstanding here. i agree there was some slight hessitation when i picked up wow because of the geek factor and the Dungeon and Dragons stigmas that are attached with it. however theres more to the game than running through the woods aimlessly and Role Playing with NPCs. you have 3 kinds of players: casuals, pvpers, and raiders.
Casuals play the game a few hours a week and get frustrated that everyone passes them up (maybe you were one of these). These include the RPers. PvPers stick to the battlegrounds and run around ganking people in the middle of nowhere for some raw pleasure. The WoW PvP system, though recently nurfed, has been one of the most succesful pvp systems around. The Raiders keep the game going, people such as myself. Raids consist of 20-40 people that grind through dungeons to kill bosses. This requires an extreme amount of communication and maturity not to mention 5+ hours a night. Its a game of dedication, definitely not a waste of time.
Now your informed. I can tell you play FPS more than anything else. BOOM HEADSHOT HAHA NUB GO CRY LOLZ LMAO? There are other aspects to this game besides the vast forests of Zimbalada.

Ok, you are missing the point tom. Yes, we all understand that WoW is a game, and yes, as a game, we all expect all types of players to be playing it, casual, newbies, and 'raiders'. But don't you think the ratio of serious players to casual players is wayyyyyyyyy to high in that game? Explain to me, why there are sooo many cases of kids ruining their youth on a game, and why that specific game, I don't hear people being affected by Counter Strike, I dont see people being affected by any other game, Its just WoW and other games in its class. I had one guy in my school who was just controlled by Final Fantasy, and just to see how the game affected his body, his walk, and his talk, was just sad. He skipped school to play the game, He skipped lunch and dinners just to play the game, and therefore his life is more or less without a future. That is just sad.
I just googled here and there, and its unbelievable the amount of articles of actual WoW players realizing that they have lost ALOT of valuable time on game, and some are really depressed.
Here is something interesting: http://www.yikers.com/video_kids_addiction_to_world_of_warcraft_ruins_hi s_familys_life.html
^^Very SAD, and we ALL know that he is not the only one, and that there are soo many people out there in the same situation.
I actually picked up WoW a while back to see what all the big fuss was about, and I tell you, that game is extremely overrated ;)
This requires an extreme amount of communication and maturity not to mention 5+ hours a night. Its a game of dedication, definitely not a waste of time.
THAT right there is exactly the problem. 5+ HOURS A NIGHT, wow, thats really sad. I cant even watch the computer screen for an hour. Let me ask you a question, after you killed the boss with that raiding thingi: what did you get in return besides a couple of points? Fun? If spending 5 hours a night beating a virtual dummy is fun, then world is much more fun place to be. LOL, Since when a game needed dedication. ITS A GAME :)
FPS is exactly the type of game people should be playing, its fun, short, and actually entertaining, and eventually ends, Unlike WoW, where you will never reach the end of the game ;)
You must admit, there is a problem with WoW.

I don't think there is any type of game that should be played. World of Warcraft is fun, but it gets very repetitive and eventually it becomes a chore. My friend has missed the past two days of school because of Burning Crusade (the new expansion), and he isn't planning on coming back this week. That is seriously ridiculous.
Mark want a hug? I think you need one. But i wont give it to you, im not gay.

Not even when you need to loosen up and have some fun?
Sometimes life isnt about but. Then again if its going to be fun why pay a monthly rate to play a game? Theres plenty of other games out there that require no subscription. =)

The problem about MMORGs is the community (especially if your one of those people in the mentality of; 'i really really must get to the top of the game so i can start playing with the big boys'(no not in that way you dirty barstads) of which two of my friends (soon to be 3) are in.) it makes the whole game one hell of a lot more competitive (the community aspect) and so it encourages people to play more no matter how much time they are wasting. I downloaded the 10 day trial (of WoW)and i played it ALOT and im not saying its a shit game, far from it, its probably one of the best games around (not THE best) and seem as i've played every warcraft game since No.2 came out i really wanted to get this one. And i would have a bought it too. its just my dad saw how much i played the game and flat out forebode me to go anywhere near the game (unless it was on someone else's PC in someone else's house). So basically im not gonna be playing it, no matter how much i wonna.
any way, WoW is a great game and i recommend it to any1 WITH A HIGH AMOUNT OF WILL POWER AND SELF CONTROL. i got my night elf hunter to lvl 13 (amongst other avatars) in the short time i played the game.
o and read these two articles as ther'e quite good (for no reason what so ever they're just related to the world of MMORGs.
